First: stay as close to the truth as possible. 90% of your statement should be truthful and 10% should be a lie. Don’t improvise a complete fiction.
Second: believe that it is the truth and commit to your truth.
Third: prevent follow-up questions so the lie remains shallow. Add an embarrassing detail that makes the story human/believable while reducing the chance of lingering on the lie.
