November 17, 2024 was valuable because I learned how much the approval and "alliance" of a friend means compared to the superficial validation of strangers. I think I understand the habituation of social media; likes mean a lot at first and then they don't.
It was significant because it's been many months since I had friends I looked up to (my colleagues at Neo). At WLU, I find it disconcerting that we have 17-18 year old first years with the maturity and discipline of 13 year olds. I'm disillusioned after realizing that there is no ideal "posse" for me. Instead, I like the graduate and postgraduate students here; maybe that's something worth pursuing.
I'm grateful that I'm a little ahead of the curve in understanding the importance of respect and authenticity in a world of strange people. I'm grateful to my mom for always pushing that message when I was younger. To the people who will understand, and to the person who currently does. Here's to you Caleigh 🥂
