Dangerous Musings

[N] Insititutional Education

I’ve most likely sent you this post because you asked “why did you pause your university education?”

A university or college education should be, but isn’t:1

  • fun
  • inclusive
  • accessible
  • immersive
  • multifaceted
  • accommodating
  • open to criticism
  • stimulating curiosity
  • invigorating discovery
  • nonexclusive to students
  • encouraging critical thinking

Paying $996.752 to teach yourself one course that over promises and doesn’t deliver is something an idiot would do.

“Whenever I’m about to do something, I think, “Would an idiot do that?” And if they would, I do not do that thing.”

— Dwight Schrute: The Office

Who knows? If I ever become a masochist or lose all hope, I might try again.

  1. These are all my opinions; institutional academia doesn’t serve learners like me, but it may serve you.

  2. 2026 undergraduate tuition prices at Wilfrid Laurier University for domestic out-of-province computer science students at a full—5 credit—course load starts at $7974 CAD (~5750 USD) per year.
